What a fantastic weekend at the #ChinoGrinder gravel race! This year’s event was a whirlwind of excitement, camaraderie, and some serious pedal power. Hosted by Shenandoah Racing, the Chino Grinder is known for its challenging routes and beautiful scenery, and 2023 did not disappoint!
Savage Racers Representing in Every Category
We had a fantastic turnout from our Savage community, with racers participating in nearly every category. It was inspiring to see so many faces from our shop out on the course, pushing themselves to the limit!
- 20 Mile Fun Grind: A shoutout to our friend of the shop, @bckmn1, who tackled the 20-mile route. It’s always great to see new cyclists joining the fray and enjoying the thrill of gravel racing!
- 40 Mile Fine Grind: Representing the Savage team were our dedicated employees and sponsored racers: @dsully_rides, @teamtellache, @iamgscott, and @kayla_pedals_mtb. Each of them brought their A-game, showcasing their grit and determination!
- 60 Mile Half Grind: Our very own shop employee Lem (who unfortunately doesn’t have an Instagram) took on the 60-mile challenge. Great job, Lem! Your hard work and training have definitely paid off.
- 120 Mile Full Grind: Last but not least, our fierce competitors @adam.p.kidd and @neltron3030 pushed through the grueling 120-mile grind. The endurance and tenacity required for such a race are nothing short of remarkable!
Challenging Conditions
This year’s Chino Grinder presented some trying conditions, with hotter than normal temperatures leading to a record number of DNFs (Did Not Finish). The heat made the race even more grueling, testing both physical and mental resilience. Despite the challenges, everyone gave their best effort, demonstrating the true spirit of our Savage community.
Lessons Learned for Next Year
While we faced some tough conditions, we took home valuable lessons that will only make us stronger for next year’s race. Every challenge presents an opportunity to learn, and we’re committed to growing as a team and improving our strategies for future events.
Thanks to everyone who participated and supported our Savage racers this weekend! The friendships and memories we create during events like these are what make gravel racing so special. We can’t wait for next year’s Chino Grinder and all the adventures that lie ahead!
Until next time, keep grinding! 🚴♂️💪
